U16 / U19 DIVISION INFORMATION
OVERVIEW
In the U16/ U19 divisions, players advance in speed and overall athletic ability, and their understanding of the game deepens. Rivalries begin to form and the players tend to keep close track of the standings.
Practices & Equipment
Ball Size: 5
Player Equipment: Shoes and shin guards, covered by socks are mandatory at all games and practices and games. Soccer cleats are recommended.
Practice Sessions: 60-90 Minutes / Twice per week.
Practice Location: Practice location is by assignment only. Coach must submit a "Practice Field Request" to receive assignment.
Game Day
Team Sideline: U16 & U19 Choose their preferred sideline during home games.
Game Length: (U16) 80 Minutes (40 Minute Halves) - Time should include 8-12 minute halftime break) Free substitutions. Track time on Player form.
Game Length: (U19) 90 Minutes (45 Minute Halves) - Time should include 8-12 minute halftime break) Free substitutions. Track time on Player form.
Players on Field (16U): 11 players per team on the field (11v11) Minimum of 7 players/team on field. Maximum of 18 on the roster.
Players on Field (19U): 11 players per team on the field (11v11) Minimum of 7 players/team on field. Maximum of 18 on the roster.
Game Cards: Each week have a game card filled out and ready for the referee. Cards are available from the RC Tent.
Scores: Teams must report their scores to Area N/R after each game.
Standings: Win & loss records are kept. Standings are recorded.
Playoffs: Top teams with the best records and referee points will participate in playoffs.
Game Day- Additional Information:
- 1st game of the day responsible for field setup, including pushing out goals and setting up corner flags (please arrive 45 minutes early); last game of the day responsible for tear down at our home fields only. Push goals together and collect corner flags.
- Player Equipment: The basic compulsory equipment of a player includes: a jersey or shirt, shorts, stockings, footwear and shin guards. Shoes and shin guards are mandatory at all practices and games. The shin guards need to provide a reasonable degree of protection and be covered entirely by the stockings.
The Coin Toss / Kick-off:
- The Visiting Team is allowed to call heads or tails while the coin is in the air.
- The team that wins the coin toss decides which goal to attack in the first half OR to take the Kick-off
- Depending on the above, the team that lost the coin toss takes the Kick-off OR decides which goal to attack in the first half
- The team that decided which goal to attack in the first half takes the Kick-off in the second half
- The teams change ends of the field for the second half and attack the opposite goal.
Referees
Regional Referees: U16/ U19 games will have referees assigned by the region.
Team Referees: Teams need to referee games other games in the region to accumulate referee points for playoffs.
Teams should referee in other Core or EXTRA divisions.
Referee: Advanced Referees are needed for 16U and above games. Intermediate Referees can participate with RRA and RC approval.
Assistant Referees/Club Linesmen: If available, qualified, neutral assistant referees who have completed Regional Referee Certification (or higher) may be used to assist the referee. This is an opportunity for new intermediate referees or seasoned regional referees to gain experience. If qualified assistant referees are not available, Club Linesmen (someone who is affiliated with one of the teams/clubs) may be recruited from the spectators to assist the referee with calling the ball in and out of play only. This is an opportunity for parents to get involved.
Fouls & Misconduct: Opponents must be ten yards from the ball on restart kicks. Coaches should work cooperatively with players to eliminate the need for cautions and send-offs. Referees will issue cautions and send-offs if such action, in the opinion of the referee, is warranted. The referee will complete a misconduct report should a yellow or red card be issued. Players receiving a send-off will not be allowed to participate in their next scheduled match. It is the coach’s responsibility to notify the referee of the next match of this requirement.
Team Banners
Team Banners: Below are the rules for banners:
- You may put player FIRST names only or JERSEY number only, not both. DO NOT put first AND last names or uniform numbers. This is done for the child’s safety. No pictures of players.
- Beside your team name, don’t forget your coach, assistant coach and team parent.
- Must include ""Redlands AYSO Region 50", the Division (example Bu10), and the Sponsor name (if applicable)
- Team names should be fun and non-political. If there are any questions regarding appropriateness of your name, contact your division coordinator.
- Banners that do not adhere to the banner policy may not be included in team photos, the yearbook, or displayed on the sidelines of games.
Two ways to get a banner:
- Order through a vendor. Easiest and fastest way to get a banner. Once you have a team name, you can pick from thousands of designs and they include the banner stand and carrying case with the purchase You can shop local or online.
- Make one yourself. You can purchase supplies a local fabric store and have the team decorate the banner. Typically, teams use felt or other fabrics and decorate with paint, glitter or use cloth letters. To create the banner stand, you can buy ¾” or 1” PVC tubing (used for garden sprinklers) and the fittings. You may want to use Velcro, snap rings or grommets or just thin rope to mount the banner to your stand. Make sure it is easy to assemble and disassemble.
